Vitamin C for healthier skin

Fruits containing Vitamin C

Getting enough vitamin C or ascorbic acid in your diet is an important part of keeping your skin beautiful and staying healthy. It is necessary for hundreds of metabolic functions of the human body and plays a key role in tissue repair. Unlike most other mammals humans are unable to produce their own supply of vitamin C so we must get ours through what we eat.

Not getting enough vitamin C can lead to severe health problems such as scurvy, without the vitamin collagen can no longer perform its essential functions. Recommended intake of vitamin C is at least 90mg a day and no more than 2,000mg a day. Fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C include oranges, papaya, kiwi fruit, lemons, strawberries, and broccoli.

Vitamin C helps increase collagen production and its ability to function properly, it enhances the ability of your skin to repair itself, protects it from free radical damage, brightens the skin, reduces skin discoloration, decreases wrinkles and enhances the ability of your skin to withstand sunlight. It makes a great addition to any skin care product to lighten the skin and a healthy level of vitamin C in your system can even help you heal your chemical peel faster.

Many skin care products contain ascorbic acid or vitamin C for its obvious benefits to the skin and so do many of our Better Complexions products. Try our Vitamin C Super Map Serum with Ferulic Acid, this product combines the power of Vitamin C with Vitamin E to stabilize the ascorbic acid and also works as another collagen booster and anti-oxidant. Try it to fight off the effects of aging and wrinkles and you won’t be disappointed.
