Skin whitening products could be between a cosmetic and dermatological product. This is the reason why you would definitely find a skin whitening product in a dermatologist’s office and in a cosmetologist’s office. Evidently, when you have skin coloration issues like hyperpigmentation, you might be advised to go to either place. Nevertheless, there are many treatment options that either a dermatologist or a cosmetologist may employ while at their offices and prescripted for you to administer at home.

Chemical Exfoliation

One of the most common treatments to lighten hyperpigmentation is chemical exfoliation. Exfoliation is a significant process in treating hyperpigmentation wherein the upper layer of the skin will be removed to reveal new skin. Skin lightening treatments usually contain AHA, BHA or retinoid, all of which are exfoliant agents. The choice of the skin lightening agent will depend on your skin type and perhaps on your level of tolerance for pain. Whitening solutions that include chemicals like AHA have some side effects like stinging sensation. Once you have chosen a skin lightening product that is suitable for you, of course with the help of the dermatologist, you have to know how to properly use the products.

Skin Lightening Procedure

The skin has to be washed thoroughly so that dirt and other particulates could be washed off. Next, the chemical skin lightening solution has to be placed on the area using cotton balls, leaving it for about 10 to 25 minutes. The time that the solution has to be placed on the affected area will depend on the severity of the hyperpigmentation that you want to treat. You may leave it longer but not necessarily for hours because it may lead to skin burning. Afterwards, you have to wash the affected area thoroughly, ensuring that no residue is left behind. To prevent drying, you may apply moisturizer afterwards. After one to two days, you may notice flaking and peeling. You should not pick this may bleed and thus result in scars.

Further, there are other skin bleaching treatments that you may use especially if you are not comfortable with the thought of peeling. Definitely, you have to follow instructions on how to apply the product on the affected area to see the best results be it directed by the dermatologist or written on labels.
